How we build Fusion Boats
The Fusion 15 design was engineered from the first mouse click to be as easy to manufacture as it is to sail. Those beautiful hull and deck shapes are not only ergonomically friendly, they're also formed to bond together with a precise, mutually reinforcing fit. Three finished fiberglass parts are all that are required to make the boat – a hull, deck and foredeck. The mast step is reinforced with an internal bulkhead that bonds hull and deck together. The Fusion 15 is built in an open female mold with bi-axial fiberglass and polyester resin. Advanced isothalic gelcoat is used to resist fading and permits us to give you a five-year guarantee against blistering.
Construction History
The prototype for the Fusion 15 was built by Bear Mountain Boat shop in Peterborough, Ontario by master craftsman Ted Moores. Fusion staff, designers, young sailing school sailors and masters sailors gave us their advice and reactions – conveyed their enthusiasm. Between the prototype and the final boat the area of non-skid was extended, hiking straps were padded and move to the side of the centerboard box, the jib traveler was reduced in size, boom vang was reduced in power, the mast was made more flexible fore and aft and stiffer sideways, mast rake was increased, the mainsail leech length increased and the roach reduced.
